Hi Luke

Coloured lines on laptop screens are usually caused by a bad connection on the cable that goes from the motherboard to the display panel or one of the connectors at either end is worn and loose. This causes a whole row or column of subpixels (a subpixel is either the red green or blue part of one pixel) to be always on or always off.

I would need to remove some of the outer casing to check the cable for damage or a loose connection.

If you are unlucky a new screen may be required but we can obtain and fit these too.

Hi Luke

If you are experiencing problems with lines down your screen then you will need to have the screen replaced, Replacing the cable will do very little to sort the problem out, the cable from the mother board supplies an encoded signal to the screen which is decoded by the screen and then displayed as the image you see.
It is quite a common fault with laptop screens as the lid is being opened and closed repeatedly and the ribbon cable that supplies the individual pixel lines is located at the top of the screen, this is not the same as the cable from the mother board to the screen.
You should not expect to pay more than £130 - £180 dependant on the size of the screen, Prices of laptop screens are dropping all the time last screen I replace was on a HP Dv9000 with a 19” wide screen and that repair was £160.
